Creating different personas to answer a simple question in OpenAI

OpenAI has fascinated me for some time now.

They went viral with the release of ChatGPT. If you haven't had a chance yet, go play with it.

I've been thinking more about this technology, and decided to setup an experiment.

What if I was able to generate different personas, and use those to answer questions?

I decided to start with a very straightforward question: What is the population of India?

If it was me, I would simply answer that question with a single number. Which happens to currently be 1,417,069,550. (source)

The Personas

Each heading below is a persona type, and the text underneath it is that persona's response to the same question above.

Hey man, like, why do we need to put a number on people, you know? Like, we're all just souls on this beautiful planet, experiencing this crazy journey together. Whether there's a billion people in India or just a handful, we're all connected in this cosmic dance of life, man. So let's just chill and appreciate the unity of all things, ya dig?

Happy Little

Ooh, what a fun question! I'm so excited to tell you! The population of India is so big, it's hard to even imagine! But you know what, that means there are so many people to make friends with and learn from! I bet they have some really cool traditions and yummy food too! And who knows, maybe someday I'll get to visit and see it all for myself! Yippee!

Hey, what's with all the questions, huh? You wanna know the population of India? Go look it up yourself! I'm walkin' here! I got places to be, things to do, people to see. And you're wasting my time with this nonsense? Get outta here!

Class clown who tells Dad jokes

Oh boy, population of India? That's a big one! Are you ready for this? Okay, here it goes... The population of India is...a lot! (Cue the cheesy drumroll sound effect and exaggerated wink) But seriously, folks, last time I checked it was over a billion people! That's a whole lot of folks! (Insert rimshot sound effect and thumbs up gesture)

Jewish Auntie

And let me tell you, I've met some lovely people from India in my time. So many vibrant cultures and traditions. You know, I heard they have some amazing food too. Have you ever tried their samosas? Absolutely delicious!

Well bless your heart, sugar! The population of India? My oh my, that's a mighty big number! But you know what they say, the more the merrier! And I bet they have some mighty fine folks over there in India. I've always wanted to visit and see all the different cultures and traditions. I bet they have some good cookin' too! Hey man, I don't know if I can trust you. How do I know you're not with "them"? You know, the government or the aliens or whoever's watching us? You could be trying to get information out of me, man! But alright, I'll tell you. The population of India is...wait a minute, I can't say it out loud! They might be listening! Just do your own research, man, it's not safe to talk about this stuff. Just trust no one, and keep your eyes open...and your mind open too, man. You never know what you might find.

Love and light girl, grand risings

Oh my goodness, my darling! Thank you so much for asking such a wonderful question! The population of India is truly awe-inspiring, and it fills my heart with so much love and gratitude. I just know that there are so many beautiful souls there, radiating love and light out into the world. And you know what? I send them all so much love and light right back! Population of India? Ooh, look, a nut! Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh, right, India! The population is...hey, have you seen my acorn stash? It's supposed to be around here somewhere. Oh, look, a shiny thing! Sorry, where were we? India! Yeah, the population is...squirrel! Gotta go!

Feminist charity worker and mum

Well, my dear, the population of India is a staggering number, and it's growing every day. But you know what concerns me the most? The fact that so many women and girls in India face discrimination, violence, and inequality on a daily basis. As a feminist charity worker and a mother, I believe we must do more to support and empower women in India and around the world. Every girl deserves the chance to receive an education, pursue her dreams, and live free from harm. So let's work together to create a brighter future for all women and girls, shall we?

Cat loving librarian

Well, my dear, the population of India is a very large number, indeed. But did you know that India is also home to some of the most fascinating and diverse wildlife in the world, including some beautiful cats? Yes, they have Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, and even some smaller wild cats like the rusty-spotted cat. And speaking of cats, have you checked out our library's collection of books on feline behavior and care? It's absolutely purrfect!

Donald Trump

Well, let me tell you, nobody knows the population of India better than me, okay? I mean, I've got the best numbers, the biggest numbers, believe me. Some people might say it's a billion, some might say it's less, but let me tell you, it's a tremendous number, the likes of which you've never seen before. And you know what, India's a great place, I have a lot of good friends there, fantastic people. But let's talk about me for a minute, because I'm really the most important thing, right? #MAGA

Next steps

I'm currently working on creating an app where users can use ask anything of OpenAI and be responded back to through the filter of a specific persona. 😊

Watch this space, and by all means get in touch directly if you would like to get involved.
